Who can stay with me?

If someone would like to move into your GHA property, you must tell your Housing Officer before they move in as required by your tenancy agreement.
Please do not allow someone to move in until you have spoken to us, as written approval may be required.
Why do I need to do tell GHA?
A change to who lives in your home may affect:
- your eligibility for social housing
- any benefits you receive
- the terms of your tenancy agreement
If you do not tell us about someone moving in, this may be treated as a breach of your tenancy agreement and may affect your right to remain in the property. It may also lead to an overpayment of benefits or further action.
If you would like a partner or spouse to live with you:
You need to fill out the Social Housing Applicaton and Eligibility Form. This is available from your Housing Officer or via the Contact Us page.
Your form must include both of your details:
- contact + address details
- information on both of your earnings, savings and any other sources of income
You will also need to provide:
- copies of wage slips for the both of you (4 wage slips if weekly paid, 2 wage slips if fortnightly paid, 2 wage slips if monthly paid and, if self-employed, your tax assessment for the previous year and most recent audited accounts)
- 3 months bank statements for both of you across all bank accounts
- copies of your status declaration certificates or employment permit number (previously right to work)
Your joint application will be assessed to make sure that you both meet the criteria for social housing. If approved, your partner or spouse may be added as a joint tenant.
If another family member is moving in:
If a child, grandchild, relative or another person wishes to live with you, either permanently or temporarily, you must tell us before they move in.
You will need to supply the same supporting information for the person staying with you. If approved, they will become an authorised occupant of the property.
How to send your application:
You can send the above forms to us by:
- post to Guernsey Housing Association, First Floor, Newlands House, Lowlands Trading Estate, Braye Road, Vale GY3 5XJ
- email it to [email protected]
- hand it to your GHA Housing Officer
What happens next?
Once we receive your completed form and documents, we will review the application and may contact you for further information.
We will confirm our decision in writing.
