Read the pet policy procedure if you are considering bringing a pet into your home
Keeping a pet in your home
If you are a resident of GHA and would like to keep a pet after moving in, then you must get written permission from us before bringing the pet into your home.
Applications will be considered with our Pet Policy.
Can I keep a pet?
You may be allowed to have a pet if you meet the following criteria:
you must live in a suitable property.
your Housing Officer confirms the property is appropriate.
your rent account is up to date.
you have not fallen into rent arrears in the last three months.
you can show that you can look after a pet properly.
If you meet the criteria as outlined in the Pet Policy, then GSPCA will carry out a home visit for £10 to assess your suitability
Your Housing Officer will confirm the final decision in writing
If you want to have a dog as a pet, then you need to check to see if the dog breed is on our list of acceptable dog breeds.
Your responsibilities:
If you are given permission to keep a pet, you are responsible for making sure it does not cause a nuisance or damage.
This includes:
cleaning up after your pet immediately
disponsing of waste safely and hygienically
making sure your pet does not disturb your neighbours
making sure your pet does not damage your home, garden, shared areas or communal spaces
Any damage caused by your pet is your responsibility. You will need to repair the damage or pay for any repairs required.
Cat litter must be disposed of in the bin, and not in any toilet. If not, it might become a nuisance and a health hazard to other tenants living nearby.
If problems arise:
Permission to keep a pet may be reviewed if:
the pet causes nuisance or complaints
the pet damages the property
if you don’t clean up adequately after your pet
you do not meet the conditions of the pet policy
If damage is not repaired or ongoing issues continue, you may be asked to remove the pet and this may affect your tenancy.
