be a locally qualified resident living in Guernsey
need a minimum of four hours a week care and support.
We will also look at whether you are living in accommodation which is suitable for your care and support needs.
Extra care housing is not intended for people who are found to have challenging behaviour that would put themselves or other residents at risk.
Your personal finances are only relevant when deciding if you qualify for rented accommodation or partial ownership. In general, if you own a property and/or have substantial savings you will be expected to buy a partial ownership flat.
What happens if the scheme manager decides I do meet the extra care eligibility criteria?
If the Scheme Manager decides that you do need at least four hours of care and support a week, they will refer your application to the Needs Assessment Panel which is administered by Health and Social Care. They will review your application together with the Scheme Manager’s assessment. If they decide you are eligible then they will issue an Extra Care Housing Certificate and you will be placed on the waiting list.
If appropriate, you will at this point be contacted by the GHA to talk about partial ownership.
