Pest control
What do I do if I have rats, mice or fleas in my home?
You are responsible for keeping the property free of pests such as rats, mice and fleas. We have a comprehensive pest control contract in place to ensure reports of pests are dealt with promptly and appropriately.
What should I do straight away?
If you notice signs of pests:
- store all food securely in sealed containers
- clean up food spillages or crumbs
- keep rubbish in sealed bags and remove it regularly
- keep kitchen and food areas as clean as possible
- avoid leaving pet food out overnight
- keep pets away from affected areas where possible
These steps help prevent the problem from getting worse before treatment takes place.
Reporting pest problems
If you see signs of rats, mice or fleas (inside or outside your home), please contact the maintenance team as soon as possible.
You will be asked to provide:
- your address
- where the pests have been seen
- the type of pest if known
- any supporting information if available
What happens next?
For rental tenants, if you have signs of pests at your property, either inside or outside, please contact the maintenance team who will contact Rentokil on your behalf.
Rentokil will arrange with you to visit your property and will set a suitable bait or traps as well as provide advice on prevention.
If you need any follow up visits, you can arrange this directly with the Rentokil operative or via the maintenance team. You will not be charged for this service.
Fleas
Fleas can sometimes be linked to pets.
If fleas are found, treatment may be required in affected areas such as carpets or soft furnishings. You may also need to treat pets separately through a vet or pest control provider. If found on your pet, you will be responsible for payment of treating your home. However, it will depend on your lease.
For Partial Owners, if you pay for this service within your service charge agreement please contact GHA maintenance team as above. If you do not pay for this service please contact the pest control company of your choice but your will be charged directly for the service.
What GHA will and will not do:
We will:
- arrange pest control where appropriate
- investigate possible causes linked to the building or environment
We will not:
- remove rubbish
- carry out deep cleaning of your home
- treat pets for fleas or parasites
Access to your home
You must allow access for pest control visits. If appointments are missed, treatment may be delayed.
