It is a new befriending service run by Guernsey Welfare Service. It is mainly aimed at those over 60 who find themselves requiring some extra company and friendship.
It matches trained and vetted volunteers with an older person who would like to see a friendly volunteer visitor on a regular basis for about an hour.

Meals on Wheels - a meals-on-wheels service to the whole community.
Day centres - there are two day centres run by GVS. Both centres are staffed by volunteers and offer meals, refreshments, entertainment and a hairdressing facility. There is also a mini bus service available to assist with transportation.

Social groups
GVS Good Companions meet fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons 2-4 at Sylvans Sports Club, St Peters.
Castel Darby and Joan Club meet weekly on Friday afternoons 2-4 at Cobo Community Centre.
The Silver Line is a free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The Voluntary Car Service assists people who are unable to get to medical appointments. They too are looking for volunteers if you would like to help.
The Lions Club “Message in a Bottle” scheme provides vital health information to emergency services.
There is also a charity shop on the Bridge that sells a range of items and may also collect unwanted furniture if in good condition.

Home Start is a charity offering support and friendship to families with a child/children under the age of 5 years old. They are independent and unrelated to social services and are based at Roseville Community Centre, Le Bouet.

It is open to everyone. There is dedicated space and Wi-Fi access, and offers a selection of books, music CDs, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am to 12pm.

This is run by the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team and is based at the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association (GAA) Centre in Rue des Monts, Delancey. It offers advice and support to friends and family caring for loved ones. There is a group taking place on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3.30pm and all are welcome.

There is lots going on at the Centre such as group meetings every Monday and alternate Wednesdays from 2 to 4pm, lunches on third Thursday of each month and a games and social get-together on alternate Wednesdays.

Guernsey Mind was formed in 1977 and is an independent charity with all funds spent on delivering services locally.
They provide signposting services geared towards the individual and focused on the impact of their mental health on their lives and relationships. They provide an opportunity for someone to be fully heard and listened to confidentially and without judgement. Information about local and online services is provided and referrals given where possible.
They do not offer advice nor are they qualified counsellors. Their services are fully confidential and no information is shared unless specifically requested by the individual.
An independent Christian charity which started in 1896 and the management team, chaired by the Rev Jon Honour, has representatives from a number of churches.
The charity works with a variety of people who find themselves in financial need.
This includes single-parent families, pensioners, people with disabilities or long-term medical conditions and families on low incomes who may find themselves with unexpected medical or household bills that put them in financial difficulty.

Safer is the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s domestic abuse charity supporting all victims of domestic abuse whether they be adults, children, women or men & regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
Safer runs the island’s Women’s Refuge and provide the Independent Domestic Violence Adviser service for adults and children. Safer also provides outreach to the community, counselling services to help victims move forward positively, run The Guernsey and Alderney Children’s Contact Centre, provide training sessions, raise awareness, lobby and advocate on behalf of victims of domestic abuse. Safer works in a multi-agency environment under the States Domestic Abuse Strategy umbrella with the States and other charities.
